13.55 tonnes of hoarded fertiliser seized in Jashore, trader fined Tk20,000

A mobile court in Jashore's Chougachha seized 13,550kg of fertiliser worth Tk3.53 lakh and fined a trader Tk20,000 for illegally hoarding the fertiliser without a valid licence.
The court also ordered the seized fertiliser to be sold to farmers at the government-fixed fair price, with the proceeds deposited into the state treasury.
The mobile court, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) GMA Munib, conducted the drive at around 11am today (26 August) at the shop of Khairul Islam, 45, in the Parbazar area of Chougachha municipal town.

During the operation, Khairul failed to produce any valid documents proving that he was a licensed fertiliser trader.
However, 271 sacks of fertiliser were found stored at his shop, including 147 sacks of TSP, 87 sacks of urea, 28 sacks of MOP and nine sacks of DAP.
The total retail value of the seized fertiliser is Tk3,53,350, according to the mobile court.
As Khairul admitted to illegally storing the fertiliser without a valid licence, the court fined him Tk20,000 under sections 12 and 18 of the Fertiliser Management Act 2006, or one month of simple imprisonment in default.
Khairul paid the fine and signed an undertaking promising not to illegally store or trade fertiliser in the future.
Earlier seizure
Earlier, on 25 August, locals in Chougachha intercepted 37 sacks of TSP, urea, DAP and MOP fertiliser while they were allegedly being smuggled out of the area.
The fertiliser, worth Tk45,000 at retail prices, was subsequently seized by a mobile court led by AC Land GMA Munib.
The court ordered the fertiliser to be sold to farmers at the government-fixed fair price, with the proceeds deposited into the state treasury.
The driver of an Alamsadhu transport vehicle was also fined Tk2,000 for transporting the fertiliser.
