1 killed in clash between two Chhatra Dal factions in Barishal over sweets distribution after Hasina verdict
A group of Chhatra Dal activists in Jahangirnagar union began distributing sweets to celebrate the verdict. An argument broke out when members of the rival faction complained about not being invited.
One person was killed and eight others injured in a clash between two factions of the BNP's student wing, Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal, at the Agrapur market in Babuganj upazila of Barishal yesterday evening (17 November).
The clash stemmed from a dispute over distribution of sweets following the death sentence handed down to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal by the International Crimes Tribunal in a crimes against humanity case.
Confirming the incident, Palash Chandra Sarker, investigation officer of Babuganj Police Station, said police were deployed to the spot and the situation was under control. "We are looking into the matter," he added.
The deceased, Rabiul Islam, 24, was a former vice president of Jahangirnagar union Chhatra Dal. The injured were identified as Chhatra Dal activists Palash, Russell Sabbir, Hasan, Ashraful, Shanti, Emdadul, Riwan and Sakil.

The altercation soon escalated into a violent clash, leaving eight people injured. Rabiul Islam, who was critically wounded, was taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, police said.
