Barishal nomination scrutiny: 2 Jatiyo Party candidates among 6 rejected
According to sources at the Returning Officer’s office, a total of 48 nomination papers submitted for the six parliamentary constituencies in Barishal were scrutinised in the last two days. Of these, 32 nominations were declared valid after the review.
Returning officers completed nomination paper scrutiny for the 13th parliamentary elections across Barishal's six constituencies today (3 January), rejecting six candidates, including two from Jatiyo Party, while putting 10 others on hold.
According to sources at the Returning Officer's office, a total of 48 nomination papers submitted for the six parliamentary constituencies in Barishal were scrutinised in the last two days. Of these, 32 nominations were declared valid after the review.
Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Md Khairul Alam Sumon said rejected candidates can appeal per Election Commission rules, while papers put on hold will get final decisions tomorrow (4 January).
Today, the nominations of two Jatiyo Party candidates and one independent candidate in the Barishal-3 (Babuganj-Muladi) constituency were rejected due to the absence of the party chief's signature on the affidavit, discrepancies in the voter list, and lack of party nomination. Two other nominations in the same constituency were put on hold.
Meanwhile, a Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) candidate's paper was rejected in Barishal-2 (Uzirpur-Banaripara) for lacking party authorisation.
Earlier yesterday, the nominations of two candidates were rejected, and those of two others were put on hold.
Although a total of 62 nomination papers were collected for Barishal's six parliamentary constituencies, only 48 candidates submitted their nominations. So far, 32 nominations have been declared valid.
