Fascism will be tried in appropriate court: Law minister
Asaduzzaman says the trial will be held transparently and in accordance with due process
Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said fascism will be tried in an appropriate court in Bangladesh, with the proceedings held transparently so that no one can question the process.
He made the remarks today (16 August) while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting with lawyers at the Barishal District Bar Association, where the foundation stone for the association's proposed 10-storey building was also laid.
"The country cannot be toyed with after the sacrifices made by the July revolutionaries. We cannot give fascism an opportunity. Fascism will be tried in Bangladesh. The trial will not be held secretly; it will take place in an appropriate court so that no one can raise questions about it," he said.

Speaking at the discussion meeting, Asaduzzaman said, "Having come to Barishal, the city of Jibanananda Das, I feel that I have found the pain of the people, as the poet said. Echoing him, I can say that I have found the pain of the lawyers after coming to the Barishal Bar."
The law minister announced Tk20 lakh for renovation of the bar and Tk5 lakh for purchasing books for the time being. He also assured that all necessary measures would be taken for construction of the new building.
Highlighting various initiatives taken by the government, the minister said the government had tried to restore people's confidence and trust within six months.
"We are saying that there are crises. We are trying to resolve those crises. We do not give false assurances to the people," he said.
Regarding cases filed against BNP leaders and activists, Asaduzzaman said more than 6 million BNP leaders and activists had been sued for the "crime" of being involved with the party.
"Even people who died 20 years ago were made accused in these cases," he said.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan delivered the welcome address at the discussion meeting held to mark the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the proposed 10-storey building of the Barishal District Bar Association.
