A fire broke out in a parked bus in Baligaon, Munshiganj, late at night, leaving one person dead.

The incident occurred around 2:30am today (12 February) near the Baligaon Bridge on the Tongibari-Louhjong Road.

The victim, Shahabir Mia, 14, was a helper from Palgaon village in Louhjong Upazila, son of Sohel Mia.

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed yet. The Fire Service has stated that an investigation is underway.

Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service, said that the fire was extinguished with the efforts of four units from Louhjong and Tongibari Fire Services, and the charred body of the helper was recovered. His entire body was burned.

He mentioned that the bus did not have any electrical connections. The driver and helper used coils for heating while sleeping on the bus. However, an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact source of the fire.

Locals reported that the sudden blaze spread rapidly, causing panic in the area. Although the fire men arrived quickly to control the blaze, the Gangchil Paribahan bus was completely destroyed.

The Gangchil Paribahan buses run on the Baligaon-Mawa-Dhaka route, and most of the buses are parked along the road near the bridge.
