Patwary alleges result tampering in six Dhaka-8 polling centres
As of 9:45pm, Patwary remained at the returning officer’s office.
NCP candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency Nasiruddin Patwary on Thursday night filed complaints with the returning officer, alleging manipulation of vote counting at six polling centres.
Patwary visited the office of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury to formally raise the allegations.
Speaking to reporters, Patwary's chief election agent Shahin Ahmed claimed irregularities were occurring at Siddheshwari Boys' High School, Motijheel Ideal School and College, Eskaton Boys' High School, Paltan Family Planning Centre, Mahbub Ali Institute, and Mirza Abbas Mohila College.
He alleged that at Mirza Abbas Mohila College, their candidate was leading by 15 votes when agents were confined, and ballots were recounted.
Shahin further claimed that votes were being counted multiple times in the centres and that there were attempts to include rejected ballots while agents were kept inside.
According to Shahin, although Patwary was leading in the centres mentioned, the results were not being officially declared.
"We have received reports of irregularities at six polling centres, with additional allegations that agents are being confined at several others. Despite taking the lead, the results are being withheld. That is why he [Patwari] has come here to lodge complaints," Shahin added.
As of 9:45pm, Patwary remained at the returning officer's office.
Contacted, Returning Officer Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury said he could not make an official statement at that moment.
