NCP alleges attacks on its leaders, activists after polls
“It would be shameful if the beginning of the democratic transition comes through the oppression of the opposition and like-minded people,” the party said.
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has alleged that leaders and activists of its 11-party alliance are facing attacks in different parts of the country following the national election.
In a Facebook post today (13 February), the party claimed that its leaders and activists, as well as their families and homes, were being threatened.
Addressing the winners of the election, the NCP urged them to restrain their supporters.
"It would be shameful if the beginning of the democratic transition comes through the oppression of the opposition and like-minded people," the party said.
Meanwhile, party's Chief Organiser (northern region) Md Sarjis Alam in a separate Facebook post wrote, "In Panchagarh's Mirgarh, BNP leaders and activists were vandalising shops, attacking homes and issuing threats."
"What is the BNP's plan?" he questioned.
In another post, party's Member Secretary Akhter Hossen claimed that from the afternoon, BNP activists in Haragach announced over loudspeakers that they would target NCP leaders and activists.
"Several people were beaten and injured, homes were vandalised, valuables including gold ornaments and cash were looted, motorcycles were damaged, and threats were made to set houses on fire," he alleged.
He also shared alleged photos of injured individuals in the comment section of his post.
There was no immediate response from BNP leaders regarding the allegations.
The NCP secured victory in six constituencies in yesterday's national election.
