Jamaat, NCP will not attend cabinet swearing-in ceremony
NCP announced the decision around 1:30pm through a post on its verified Facebook page, while from Jamaat’s side, Shafiqul Islam Masud confirmed that the party had taken the decision at a parliamentary committee meeting
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) have announced that they will not attend the cabinet swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 4pm today (17 February) at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.
NCP announced the decision around 1:30pm through a post on its verified Facebook page, while from Jamaat's side, Shafiqul Islam Masud confirmed that the party had taken the decision at a parliamentary committee meeting.
Shafiqul Islam Masud added: "The party has decided not to participate in the cabinet oath-taking ceremony. Jamaat is boycotting the event in protest against the BNP's refusal to take oath as members of the Constitutional Reform Council."
In a separate post, National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, said that taking the oath without forming "Constitution Reform Council" effectively amounts to pledging to uphold the constitution enacted under Sheikh Hasina.
According to Asif Mahmud, NCP views this as contradictory to its position and therefore has decided to boycott the swearing-in ceremony of the prime minister and the cabinet.
