BNP picks Aminur as technocrat minister after he sacrificed Cumilla-6 bid at Tarique’s request
According to sources, Aminur is expected to be assigned the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Fisheries and Ministry of Food under the technocrat quota
Haji Aminur Rashid Yasin, adviser to the BNP Chairperson, has been called by the Cabinet Division to take oath as a minister in the 13th National Parliament cabinet today (February 17).
According to sources, Aminur is expected to be assigned the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Fisheries and Ministry of Food under the technocrat quota.
Earlier, he sought the BNP nomination for the 13th parliamentary election but was denied, prompting his supporters to stage continuous street protests for over a month.
He eventually filed as an independent candidate for Cumilla-6 but withdrew at the request of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and later campaigned for the party's nominee, Monirul Haque Chowdhury, aiding his victory.
Aminur Rashid was elected MP from Cumilla-9 in the 6th National Parliamentary Election in 1996 and joined the BNP central committee in 2001.
He later served as President of Cumilla Kotwali Thana BNP, general secretary of Cumilla South District BNP, assistant secretary for Agricultural Affairs and Relief and Rehabilitation secretary of the central committee.
On 30 May 2022, he became Convener of Cumilla South District BNP and lastly, on 12 March 2025, he was appointed to the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council.
