Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku set to become energy minister
Tuku is a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee. He has been elected member of parliament (MP) from Sirajganj-2.
Senior BNP leader and former state minister for power, energy and mineral resources, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, is set to become minister for power, energy, and mineral resources.
Multiple ministry officials confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
Earlier, speaking to TBS this morning (17 February), Tuku said he had been called by the Cabinet Division.
"I am not sure which ministry I will be assigned to yet. Given my previous experience in the power and energy sector, my colleagues and I believe I will be appointed to this ministry," he said.
A senior official from the Power Division told TBS, "We inquired about his name with Cabinet Division officials, and they confirmed that Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku is in the list of would-be ministers."
Tuku is a member of the BNP's Standing Committee. He has been elected member of parliament (MP) from Sirajganj-2.
He served as the state minister of power in the BNP government from 2001 to 2006.
