I have been waiting for a fair election for a long time: Army chief
He urged people to come out and vote without fear, calling the day important for the country
Bangladesh Army Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman today (12 January) said a fair election is taking place and voting has remained peaceful across the country.
He made the remarks after casting his ballot at Adamjee Cantonment Public School and College in the capital.
"I have been waiting for a fair election for a long time, and today such an election is being held," he told reporters.
He said the environment has remained peaceful since morning and that voting is proceeding in a calm manner nationwide.
"I have been informed that polling is going on very peacefully," he added.
The army chief urged people to come out of their homes and cast their votes without fear, calling the day important for the country.
Addressing journalists, he said, "You are doing a crucial job by informing people about the situation across the country. Your reporting is assuring voters and encouraging them to cast their ballots."
