Hearing deferred on Nahid’s appeal challenging candidacy of BNP's Quayum in Dhaka-11
Lawyers said the hearing on Nahid’s application seeking cancellation of Quayum’s candidacy may take place after the election.
The Appellate Division today (10 February) did not hold a hearing on an application filed by NCP leader Nahid Islam challenging an order that dismissed a writ seeking the cancellation of BNP candidate Dr MA Quayum's candidacy in the Dhaka-11 over allegations of dual citizenship and concealment of information.
The matter was listed before the Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, which said "not today".
Advocate Ahsanul Karim, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol and Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Khan represented Quayum, while Advocate Mohammad Hossain Lipu and Advocate Jahirul Islam Musa appeared for National Citizen Party Convener Nahid.

The application was filed with the Appellate Division by Nahid, also the Dhaka-11 candidate from the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance.
Earlier, Nahid moved the Appellate Division challenging a High Court order that directly dismissed his writ petition seeking cancellation of Quayum's candidacy on the same allegations.
On 3 February, the High Court summarily dismissed the writ petition challenging the legality of Quayum's candidacy in Dhaka-11 over allegations of dual citizenship and concealment of information.
The order was passed by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Kader and Justice Md Asif Hasan.
Advocate Mohammad Hossain Lipu and Advocate Jahirul Islam Musa argued for the writ petitioner, while Advocate Ahsanul Karim, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol, Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Khan and Barrister Kazi Akhtar Hossain appeared for Quayum.
The writ petition was filed on 2 February by Nahid, seeking a stay on Dr MA Kaiyum's candidacy.
The chief election commissioner and other relevant officials were made respondents.
Earlier, the Election Commission declared the nomination papers of both Nahid and BNP candidate Quayum, also the party's small loan affairs secretary, valid for the Dhaka-11 constituency.
