US-Israel war on Iran enters day 11: Regional attacks raise tensions
More than 1,200 civilians have been killed in Iran and at least 486 people in Lebanon since the United States and Israel began their war with Iran
The United States and Israel's war on Iran entered its eleventh day today (10 March), with fresh Israeli strikes reported in Tehran, security incidents across the Gulf region and a growing civilian death toll.
Here are the key developments:
Israel launches fresh strikes in Tehran
Israel launched a broad wave of strikes in Tehran overnight into today. The attacks followed earlier Israeli strikes on military infrastructure in three Iranian provinces on Monday.
Security incidents reported across Gulf region
Neighboring countries reported fresh attacks on Monday. Drones targeting an airport near a US base were shot down, while another drone caused material damage to the United Arab Emirates consulate in Erbil.
Pro-Iranian Iraqi militias have claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Last week, Iran's president said Tehran would stop striking neighboring countries unless attacks on Iran originated from those countries.
Iran vows escalation
Iran will escalate its missile attacks and will only launch missiles with warheads weighing more than a ton, an Iranian military commander said Monday.
Separately, a top Iranian official ruled out diplomacy for now. In an interview with CNN, the official said Tehran would continue attacking Gulf countries and that the war would only end through economic pain.
Civilian death toll rises
The conflict has caused heavy civilian casualties across the region.
More than 1,200 civilians have been killed in Iran and at least 486 people in Lebanon since the United States and Israel began their war with Iran, according to the United Nations and a non-profit organization.
Many of those killed are children.
Dozens more have been killed in other countries around the region, including seven US service members.
