World Bank President Ajay Banga meets Indian PM Modi amid India-Pak tensions
The World Bank president's meeting with Prime Minister Modi comes shortly after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty after Pahalgam terror attack

Amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, World Bank Group President Ajay Banga met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (8 May), reports NDTV.
The meeting comes shortly after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty that was signed in 1960 between Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan President Mohammad Ayub Khan.
The World Bank had aided the nine-year-long talks that paved the way for the treaty. It is also a signatory to the pact.
Amid escalating tensions, India halted water flow from the Baglihar dam on the Chenab river for the past few days following the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.
The run-of-the-river hydroelectric project, situated in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district and capable of generating 900 MW, adheres to the Indus Waters pact's limitations on water retention.
While prolonged blockage necessitates increasing the dam's height — a long-term prospect —India's recent action served as a clear message to Pakistan.
