Can China and Russia establish the SCO as an alternative to NATO?
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Tianjin, China, a day after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Putin and Modi, along with leaders from more than 20 countries, are attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. After the summit on August 31 and September 1, a grand military parade will be held in the capital Beijing on September 3 to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. China and Russia want to establish the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as an alternative to the Western military alliance NATO.
