Tanzid Hasan Tamim's 6-hitting boosting Dhaka Capitals, could be a boon for Bangladesh

What’s interesting is the number of sixes he’s hit, 29, which is more than the number of fours (23) so far.

One of the few positives in the Chattogram phase of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 has been the resurgence of Dhaka Capitals thanks to the performances of their local players.

The star of the show in Dhaka's latest win, which took them to a top-four place in the table after a win against home team Chittagong Kings was Tanzid Hasan Tamim.

The left-handed opener has been in top form with the bat and is one of the few players who are in form ahead of the Champions Trophy in February.

Tanzid scored 90* from 54 balls as Dhaka chased down a target of 149 set by Chittagong with eight wickets in hand and 11 balls remaining on Wednesday.

The U-19 World Cup winner now tops the run charts in this season's BPL with 420 runs from 10 innings at an average of 46.66 and an impressive strike rate of 143.3.

But at the post-match press conference, Tanzid was quick to point out: "That is a different format, and I'm currently focusing on the next match."

What's interesting is the number of sixes he's hit, 29, which is more than the number of fours (23) so far.

The 24-year-old in fact holds the record for the most sixes by a Bangladeshi batter in a single edition of the BPL, overtaking fellow U-19 World Cup winner Tawhid Hridoy, who hit 24 sixes in the last season.

The left-handed opener explained the process behind his six-hitting: "There's no secret to it. I play like this naturally. During practice, I work on my strengths and try to improve on the mistakes I make in games. So, there's no mystery—I just play my natural game."

However, the all-time record for the most sixes in a single edition of the BPL belongs to Chris Gayle which is a whopping 47.

Tanzid will have two more group stage matches and depending on if Dhaka play in the qualifiers, at best, three more matches, so a total of five more games at max to overtake the Universe Boss.

So that means he will need 18 more sixes in 2-5 games but Tanzid is not thinking about records at the moment: "I've never thought about it like that. We still have two more matches ahead, and the plan is to finish those matches well. That's what we're all focusing on. If it happens (breaking the record), it'll happen. But I'll try to stick to my usual game plan."

The Chattogram phase of the BPL has now become mired in off-field controversy with allegations by players of not getting paid on time or not getting paid at all and some very curious wides, that have made fans and journalists question whether spot-fixing is rife here.

But Tanzid was quick to quell any such doubts: "No, I didn't feel that way. Wide balls are just a part of the game. It can happen. I've never thought about it as something suspicious (match-fixing) because wides can occur naturally. I don't want to comment further on this because it's just a part of cricket."
