SA games gold medallist shooter Sadia passes away

Sadia Sultana, the gold medalist in the 2010 South Asian Games, has passed away. She died on Monday while receiving treatment in the ICU of a hospital in Chattogram.

Sadia had been struggling with mental depression for a long time. On Monday, she tragically jumped from the roof of her house and sustained severe injuries. She was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The news of her death was confirmed by Mustak, the Joint Secretary of the Shooting Federation, who stated, "We also heard the tragic news of her suicide in Chattogram. She had been living there and had been suffering from depression for some time. We had provided both financial and emotional support from the Federation, but unfortunately, we received this sad news."

In the 2010 South Asian Games held in Dhaka, Sadia won a gold medal in the 10-metre air rifle event. Later that same year, she partnered with Sharmin Akter Ratna to win gold in the team event at the Commonwealth Shooting Championship in Delhi.

Sadia's last achievement in shooting came in 2013 at the Bangladesh Games, where she won a medal in the 10-metre air rifle event. After that, she was rarely seen in shooting competitions. In 2017, she suffered severe burns in an accident and was ill for a long period.
