Two other accused were arrested on 6 and 7 April respectively in drives conducted in Bakalia and Karnaphuli Police Station areas.
Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a gunfight between rival groups in the Bakalia area of Chattogram city on 4 April, which left four people, including a 12-year-old boy, with gunshot injuries.
According to a press release issued by Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) today (9 April), the suspect, Faruk Hossain, 50, was detained yesterday (8 April) from a hilly area in Harbang union under Chakaria Police Station in Cox's Bazar district after several days on the run.
The arrest follows a clash on 4 April in the Miah Khan Nagar area under Bakalia Police Station, where two rival groups, identified as the Morshed Khan group and the Shawkat group, reportedly engaged in a gunfight over longstanding enmity and control of the area.
Police said the gunfight took place near Moydarmill School ground around 9pm, with both sides using pistols, shotguns and sharp weapons.
During the incident, a passerby, Fahim, 12, sustained bullet injuries to both thighs.
At least three others were also seriously injured. All the victims are currently undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, as per police.
Following the incident, police rushed to the scene and arrested four suspects along with two locally made sharp weapons.
The victim's father later filed a case with Bakalia Police Station, naming several accused, including Morshed Khan, Shawkat, Faruk and Hossain, under multiple sections of the Penal Code, including attempted murder.
Acting on intelligence, police later recovered a locally made shotgun from Faruk's rented residence during a drive early on 5 April. A separate case under the Arms Act was filed against him.
Subsequently, two other accused, Shawkat and Hossain, were arrested on 6 and 7 April respectively in drives conducted in Bakalia and Karnaphuli Police Station areas.
Confirming the details, Mohammad Solaiman, officer-in-charge of Bakalia Police Station, said that legal proceedings against the accused are underway.
