Rajshahi Warriors clinch 2026 BPL title with one-sided final victory
The result was effectively sealed on the fifth ball of the 18th over of Chattogram’s chase, when SM Meherob completed a catch at deep midwicket to trigger celebrations among the Rajshahi players.
Rajshahi Warriors were crowned champions of the 2026 Bangladesh Premier League after a dominant 63-run win over Chattogram Royals in the final at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
The result was effectively sealed on the fifth ball of the 18th over of Chattogram's chase, when SM Meherob completed a catch at deep midwicket to trigger celebrations among the Rajshahi players. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto's side outplayed their opponents comprehensively in batting, bowling and fielding.
The final itself lacked much pre-match buzz, with ongoing discussion over Bangladesh's participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup overshadowing the BPL. The contest also failed to generate on-field excitement, as Rajshahi maintained control throughout.
Chasing a target of 175, Chattogram Royals struggled from the outset. Binura Fernando struck early, removing Naim Sheikh and Mahmudul Hasan Joy in the third over. Naim scored nine, while Joy was dismissed without scoring. The 25-run stand off 23 balls between Zahiduzzaman and Mirza Baig for the fourth wicket was Chattogram's highest partnership of the innings.
Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, and Chattogram lost their final four wickets for just two runs. Led by Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, they were bowled out for 111 in 17.5 overs. Opener Mirza Baig top-scored with 39, hitting two fours and a six from 36 balls.
Rajshahi's bowling was led by Binura Fernando, who finished with figures of four wickets for nine runs in three overs. Hasan Murad claimed three wickets, while James Neesham took two and Abdul Gaffar Saklain added one.
Earlier, after winning the toss, Chattogram captain Sheikh Mehedi Hasan chose to field. Rajshahi Warriors posted 174 after batting through their full 20 overs, built around a historic innings from Tanzid Hasan Tamim.
Tanzid became only the third batter — after Chris Gayle and Tamim Iqbal — to score a century in a BPL final. He struck 100 off 62 balls, hitting six fours and seven sixes. For Chattogram, Shariful Islam and Mukidul Islam Mugdho took two wickets apiece.
Tanzid Hasan Tamim was named Player of the Final, capping an outstanding all-round contribution that also included two catches in the field.
