No handshake between India and Pakistan captains in women's World Cup
In today’s Women’s World Cup league match in Colombo, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistan captain Fatima Sana did not shake hands during the toss.

Just like in the men's game, the Indian captain refused to shake hands with her Pakistani counterpart in women's cricket as well.
In today's Women's World Cup league match in Colombo, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Pakistan captain Fatima Sana did not shake hands during the toss.
This follows a similar pattern from the recently concluded men's Asia Cup, where India and Pakistan faced each other three times without their captains shaking hands on any occasion. Even the traditional post-match handshake between players of both teams was absent.
The decision not to shake hands appears to have come from the Indian side. On 14 September in Dubai, during the toss in the men's match, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav notably avoided shaking hands with Pakistan captain Salman Agha.
It was later revealed that the Indian team had informed match referee Andy Pycroft in advance that the two captains would not be shaking hands. The decision sparked widespread debate throughout the Asia Cup.
Two days ago, BCCI secretary Debajit Saikia indicated that the same stance would be maintained in women's cricket. He stated, "Our relationship with the hostile nation remains unchanged. There's been no shift."
In today's match, Pakistan captain Fatima Sana won the toss and chose to bowl first. Pakistan had lost their previous match against Bangladesh by seven wickets, while India had defeated Sri Lanka by 59 runs (DLS method).
