Messi's goal breaks Higuain’s record as Inter Miami hold Toronto FC to a 1-1 draw

Lionel Messi made history once again for Inter Miami, surpassing Gonzalo Higuain's record for the most goal contributions in the club's history after scoring in a 1-1 draw against Toronto FC on Sunday night.

The Argentine star has now made 44 goal contributions in just 29 regular-season matches, which includes 24 goals and 20 assists.

Messi's latest goal came in the first half stoppage time when he netted a left-footed volley from the edge of the 18-yard box. His strike levelled the match just three minutes after Federico Bernardeschi had given Toronto the lead. Earlier in the first half, Messi had a goal ruled out after a foul was detected prior to the attempt.

The draw left Inter Miami (4-0-2) one point behind Columbus in the Eastern Conference, though they have a match in hand. Messi has been instrumental in his team's success, contributing to at least one point in all four MLS matches he has featured in this season.

Despite the draw, Inter Miami's overall record stands at an impressive 8-1-2 for the season when including victories in the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Their only loss came in a 1-0 defeat to LAFC last week, and they will face them again in the second leg of the Champions Cup on Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale.

Toronto FC, currently with a 0-4-3 record, will play Minnesota at home next Saturday, while Inter Miami will resume MLS action next Sunday against Chicago Fire.
