'I haven't received any offers yet to stay in the club': Salah on Liverpool contract

Mohamed Salah has revealed he is yet to receive a formal contract offer from Liverpool, admitting he is "probably more out than in" as his current deal nears its end. The forward's contract expires at the conclusion of this season, leaving his future increasingly uncertain.

Salah, who has netted 223 goals in 367 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2017, will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs from 1 January.

"We're almost in December and I haven't had any offers yet to stay at the club. I'm probably more out than in," he said after scoring twice in Liverpool's 3-2 victory over Southampton on Sunday.

"I've been at the club for many years. There's no club like this. But in the end, it's not in my hands. As I've said before, it's December, and I've heard nothing yet about my future.

"I love the fans, and they love me. But ultimately, it's not in my hands or theirs. Let's wait and see."

Asked if he was disappointed by the lack of an offer at this stage, he added: "Of course, yes. I'm not retiring anytime soon, so I'm just focusing on playing, trying to win the Premier League and, hopefully, the Champions League as well. I'm disappointed, but we'll see."

Senior Anfield sources insist that discussions with Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas, have been positive and remain ongoing. This is a situation sporting director Richard Hughes inherited upon his appointment earlier this year, with club captain Virgil van Dijk and vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold also out of contract next summer.

Salah's age, his position as Liverpool's highest-paid player, and the club's need to plan for the future mean a swift resolution was always unlikely.

The 32-year-old has been strongly linked with a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League in recent years. Liverpool rejected a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad in 2023, but Salah declined to comment on continued Saudi interest.

"I don't want to talk about that. I'm focused on the team right now," he said.

Salah's preference remains to play at the highest level in Europe, and his form shows no signs of decline. This season, he has contributed 12 goals and 10 assists in 18 matches across all competitions for Liverpool.

"I'm very professional, and everyone can see my work ethic," he said. "I'm just trying to enjoy my football and play at the top level for as long as possible. I'm giving my best for myself and the club. We'll see what happens next."

Liverpool's hard-fought victory at St Mary's extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points, ensuring momentum ahead of a crucial week. A Champions League clash with Real Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday is followed by a visit from Manchester City next Sunday.

"We weren't at our best, but it's an important win. After previous international breaks, we struggled against Forest and Chelsea. I'm glad we managed to win after being 2-1 down," Salah said.

"I'm just playing my game, trying to stay relaxed and focused. The whole team has great chemistry with the new manager. Hopefully, we keep winning and end the season with silverware."
