Fahim takes charge of cricket operations

Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, a newly elected director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in August, had previously expressed interest in heading the cricket operations department. However, due to disagreements with the BCB president, he had hinted at resigning. The matter has now been resolved, with Fahim being officially assigned as the head of cricket operations.

Aside from two committees, leadership for the other committees has also been finalised. After a lengthy half-hour board meeting at the BCB headquarters on Saturday, the list of committee heads was announced by Iftekhar Ahmed Mithu, who himself was given the additional role of heading the media committee. This decision comes nearly five months after Faruk Ahmed assumed the role of BCB president. Several directors have been assigned responsibilities for more than one committee.

In August, a political shake-up led to significant changes in the BCB. Initially, two directors were replaced, with Faruk Ahmed being elected president by the other directors. However, he faced resistance from several of the outgoing board members, some of whom went into seclusion. By 30 October, 11 directors were dismissed from their positions due to absenteeism across three consecutive board meetings.

In total, 15 board positions were left vacant due to these dismissals, resignations, and the death of one director. As a result, discussions on forming permanent committees remained stalled until now. Though the number of directors has not yet increased, committee leadership appointments have been made to ensure operations can proceed.

The heads of 23 committees have been named, except for the Security Committee and the Working Committee. President Faruk Ahmed retained the marketing and commercial committee under his leadership. Several directors, including Fahim Sinha, Akram Khan, and Mahbub Anam, were assigned leadership of three committees each.

Nazmul Abedeen Fahim, in addition to cricket operations, was also placed in charge of the Women's Wing. Iftekhar Ahmed, Saiful Alam Swapno, and Manzur Alam have each been given leadership of two committees.
