Avik Anwar injured in crash during race at Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit

Bangladesh's pioneering motorsports icon, Avik Anwar, has been injured in a crash during race 1 of the Malaysia Touring Car Championship 2025, held at the Sepang International Circuit today (26 July).
The incident was confirmed through a post on Avik's verified social media page, managed by his team, which stated, "Avik Anwar has been involved in a terrible car accident at race 1 in Sepang International Circuit. He is at the medical centre now undergoing checks and treatments."
Photos shared on social media show extensive damage to his car and his helmet, highlighting the severity of the crash.
Later in the day, in a post on Facebook, Avik's team informed that he is at CyberJaya Hospital and under observation for 12 hours.
Avik suffered head trauma from the crash resulting in concussion, trauma to the ribs, cut to his left leg, injury to tailbone, and hairline fracture on his right feet, according to the post.
"The incident happened at Turn 6 where his teammate spun due to cold tire temps, he tried to avoid it by going the other way but the teammate's car counterspun and landed right in front of him. He will be flown to Dubai immediately to his family as soon as the doctors deem him fit to fly.
"No one is at fault, it's just extremely bad luck. The collision happened at 140 kmph and both cars are total loss. His teammate has also suffered from massive concussions. He [Avik] got out the car on his own but collapsed afterwards," reads the post.
The race, which was streamed on YouTube, shows that the car which collided with Avik's was driven by Ken Urata of Rworks Riyoz Racing.
Following the crash, Avik was taken to the medical centre, while his wrecked car was removed from the track.

He had started in 10th position on the grid in the Round 2 TP race when the crash occurred. His condition is being closely monitored by the medical team, according to his team's sources.
