Doja Cat lands on 80’s pop with Vie
Doja Cat has officially stepped back into pop with the release of her fifth studio album, Vie, which dropped on Friday, 26 September. The 15-track project leans into retro, 1980s-inspired sounds and includes a single feature from longtime collaborator SZA. The lead single, "Jealous Type," was introduced at the 2025 VMAs with a surprise performance featuring Kenny G on saxophone.
Unlike her 2023 rap-heavy album Scarlet, Doja has framed Vie as a record centered on "love, romance, and sex." Produced primarily with Jack Antonoff, who she described as "a wonderful person to work with," the album blends disco-pop grooves with playful lyrics. "It's the grappling with talking about something personal and creating something fresh," Doja told Apple Music's Zane Lowe, reflecting on the collaborative process.
While early reactions praise the project's catchy melodies and nostalgic flair, some critics note its formulaic structure. Still, Vie is already being hailed as a fun, lighthearted return to the singer's pop roots.
To mark the release, Doja has announced the Ma Vie World Tour, with shows planned in Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. She will also appear on Saturday Night Live on 4 October, fueling speculation of a forthcoming North American leg.
