A bridal house in Chuadanga's Binodpur village sported a colourful look with a colourful decoration. Dancing and singing were going on inside a shamiana erected on the house yard.

The bride and the bridegroom had been draped in wedding attires.

Yet, it was not a typical wedding. This was between two trees.

Nobichuddin Biswas, a resident at the village, arranged the wedding ceremony on Tuesday after his wife Momena Khatun had been instructed to do so in a dream.

"A year ago, I was instructed in my dream to marry off two trees," Momena said.

She also claimed that her husband dreamt the same dream a few days later.

They fixed the wedding day after a discussion with their family members and neighbours, she added.

The money for the wedding was collected from the people in the village.

A palm tree – chosen to be the bride – was dressed in a sari while a banyan tree – designated as the bridegroom – was attired in a lungi.

Monowar Hossain, a resident of the village, performed the marriage ceremony.

"I followed all rituals of a marriage ceremony even though this was an exceptional one to perform," he said.

More than 100 people were invited in the wedding to feast on mutton, rice, lentil, chicken and vegetables.

Vice-Principal of Alamdanga Degree College Golam Sarowar said, "This was the first time I had heard of a thing like this. The villagers have done this out of superstition."

Attending the event, ward member of Alamdanga Dawki union Badar Uddin said, "At first, I thought Nobichuddin was marrying off his grandchildren. Later, I learned that a banyan tree and a palm tree were wedded."
