Anwar Hossain Ujjal, the younger brother of late Dhaka city mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, died from coronavirus on Friday. He was 63.

He breathed his last at Impulse Hospital in the city's Tejgaon area around 5:30pm, said BNP chairperson's media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

He said Anwar tested positive for coronavirus last week and was admitted to the hospital on June 20.

Anwar is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter to mourn his death.

Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at his death.

In a condolence message, he prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed his profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.

On November 4 last year, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, former mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation and BNP vice-chairman, died on Monday in the USA at the age of 67.
