Infant with measles symptoms dies in Faridpur
Since 1 January, at least 65 patients with measles-like symptoms have received treatment in Faridpur.
A seven-month-old infant has died with symptoms consistent with measles at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The infant, Rahima Akter, was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning (1 April) in critical condition and died at approximately 2:30pm the same day, according to a statement issued by the Faridpur Civil Surgeon's Office.
Civil Surgeon Mahmudul Hasan said a sample from the infant has been sent to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) in Dhaka for laboratory confirmation.
While test results are pending, physicians have classified the case as a "clinically diagnosed measles-related death" based on observed symptoms.
Since 1 January, at least 65 patients with measles-like symptoms have received treatment in Faridpur.
In the past 24 hours alone, nine new patients were admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Faridpur General Hospital.
Currently, a total of 26 patients remain hospitalised with suspected measles, including 18 at the medical college hospital and eight at the general hospital.
