Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today (October 17) predicted rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind at different places across the country for the next 24 hours commencing from 9am today.

"Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions, at a few places over Khulna and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal and Chattogram divisions," it said.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country during the period.

Country's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded 34.8 degrees Celsius at Sitakunda and Teknaf in Chattogram division while and the minimum temperature today was 23.2 degrees Celsius at Srimangal in Sylhet Division.

The maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6am today was recorded 25 millimeters (mm) at Ishurdi in Rajshahi division.

The sun sets at 5:30pm today and rises at 5:58am tomorrow (18 October) in the capital.

Besides, in a special weather bulletin, the met office said the depression over the Southwest Bay and adjoining area crossed north Tamil Nadu -South Andhra Pradesh coasts at 8am today and it is now lies over close to north of Chennai.

Squally weather is unlikely over the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to lower distant cautionary signal number one.
