Rainfall sweeps parts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka

After a heatwave for the past couple of days, the long-awaited rain today (25 September) brought relief across the country, including the bustling capital, Dhaka.

The capital experienced showers, with people wearing raincoats and carrying umbrellas as they made their way to work.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) had forecasted rain or thundershowers across all divisions, including Dhaka, for the 24 hours starting from 9am.

"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, are likely to occur in most areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, with some areas experiencing moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall," reads the Met office update.

The highest rainfall in the country was recorded in Dimla, Nilphamari, at 107 millimeters over the last 24 hours until 6am today. 

Due to the rainfall, daytime temperatures may drop by 2-5°C, while nighttime temperatures may fall by 1-2°C, as per the BMD's forecast.

Netrokona recorded the highest temperature of 36°C over the past 24 hours until 6pm on Tuesday (24 September), while the lowest temperature of 24.3°C was noted in Dimla and Koyra, Khulna, until 6am today.

Meanwhile, the low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining northwest Bay continues to persist. 

The monsoon remains active over Bangladesh and strong over the North Bay.
