New corvette BNS Sangram commissioned to Navy
The ship will leave for Lebanon on July 9 to participate in UN peacekeeping operations
The new corvette 'BNS Sangram' has been added to Bangladesh Navy fleet to increase the capacity of the naval force in protecting the maritime borders of Bangladesh.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commissioned the ship via a video conference from her official residence Ganobhaban in the capital on Thursday.
The Prime Minister said, "Today Bangladesh Navy is taking another step towards progress. Today, another modern warship 'BNS Sangram' is going to be added to the Navy. We hope that this armed corvette made in China will strengthen the Navy's capacity to protect our country's sovereignty."

The ship will leave for Lebanon on July 9 to participate in UN peacekeeping operations. As a member of the Multinational Maritime Task Force for Lebanon, Bangladesh Navy warship is the only ship from the subcontinent that is engaged as an ambassador of world peace in the Mediterranean Sea.
The new warship is expected to play a strong role in establishing peace across the country's maritime borders by participating in the UN peacekeeping operations.
At the Chattogram Naval Jetty, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury with the permission of the Prime Minister handed over the commissioning order to Captain FM Arifur Rahman Bhuiyan and officially unveiled the nameplate.
