Navy, Air Force to join poll duties alongside other forces: Home adviser

The Navy and Air Force will join other security forces to assist with duties during the upcoming national elections, Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said yesterday (31 August).
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with Sylhet divisional administration officials and law enforcement officers, the adviser highlighted the expanded role of Ansar at polling stations.
"The number of Ansar members will be increased at polling stations. The army will be on mobile duty. In addition, the Navy, Air Force, and APBn will also be deployed," he said.
On police training, Jahangir Alam noted that a batch of 4,000 officers has completed training, a new batch is currently undergoing training, and another will begin at Rajarbagh Police Line on 7 September.
Referring to the "brutal attack" on Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur, he called the incident unfortunate and said the government is investigating the incident.
Regarding unrest in universities, the adviser stressed that "teachers are capable of resolving issues through student-teacher discussions."
He also spoke on the recovery of looted weapons after 5 August, saying that the government is actively retrieving them from border areas and promising rewards for information leading to their recovery.
On the stone looting in Sylhet's Sada Pathor, he said the Cabinet Division's investigation committee has extended its timeline, with the Department of Mineral Resources overseeing the case.
"Those responsible will be punished," he added.
