So far 37 doctors have died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh and five more died with Covid-19 symptoms

Bangladesh today registered the death of three more medical professionals from Covid-19, raising the death toll among doctors to 37.

Dr Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, a cosmetic surgeon (retd) of burn unit in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) died today after being infected with the deadly virus in the capital's Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital.

"He died at 8am on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the hospital," says a press release of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA).

Dr Ashrafuzzaman retired four years ago as an associate professor. The 61-year-old doctor, had been working at DMC since the starting of the burn unit.

Another doctor- Dr Md Shah Abdul Ahad, BMA Dinajpur's former president and Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital's former director, died today from Covid-19 in Dinajpur.

"Shah Abdul Ahad, 67, died at 8.30 am today while undergoing treatment at Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital," according to another press release of BMA.

He was in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

Another doctor has died from the novel coronavirus infection at a hospital in Chattogram today. The deceased Dr Nurul Haq, 44, was a senior medical officer of Chattogram Metropolitan Hospital and was working at the intensive care unit (ICU).

Dr Fazle Akbar, executive director of the hospital, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

"He breathed his last at around 6:25 am at Chattogram Metropolitan Hospital while he was undergoing treatment for Covid-19. He was diagnosed with the virus on Monday," Dr Fazle said.

So far 37 doctors have died of Covid-19 in Bangladesh and five more died with Covid-19 symptoms.
