A court today (18 September) showed retired justice of the Appellate Division AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik arrested in six separate cases lodged over murders during the recent student-mass upsurge.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zaki Al Farabi passed the order after holding a hearing in this regard.

Of the six cases, four were filed with Badda police station, one with Lalbagh police station and another with Adabor Police Station, sources said.

Earlier, the former Apex court justice was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from a banana orchard in a border area with India under Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet as he was trying to flee the country on August 23.

He was handed over to Kanaighat Police Station the next day.

Sylhet Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Anjan Kanti Das on 17 September granted bail to Manik in a case filed over his intrusion attempt into India illegally.

He was later flown to Dhaka by a helicopter of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
