Around 18 people were injured in a clash between students of Dhaka College and Ideal College in the Science Laboratory area of the capital on Tuesday (10 September) afternoon.

Later, police and army personnel arrived at the scene to take control of the situation.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said the injured had marks from sticks and bricks on their bodies, but none were seriously hurt.

He also added that the injured students of Dhaka College and Ideal College are undergoing treatment at the emergency department of DMCH.

Badiuzzaman Badal, a Dhaka College student who was injured, said Dhaka College was holding a freshman reception around 10am. When Ideal College students arrived, a fight broke out. Although the seniors initially resolved the matter, the Ideal College students later regrouped and attacked Dhaka College students at the Science Laboratory intersection, injuring 10 to 15 of them.

On the other hand, Ideal College student Hossain detailed a different perspective: Earlier that morning, Dhaka College students attacked and injured two Ideal College students at Sonali Bank while they were making a deposit. In response, Ideal College students assembled and were en route to Dhaka College to seek a resolution. This was when they were ambushed by Dhaka College students, resulting in injuries of their peers.

Mohsin Uddin, officer-in-charge of New Market Police Station, said the clash erupted from an altercation between the students of the two colleges, leading to several injuries.
