A Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) accountant has been suspended after a video showing him allegedly accepting bribes from contractors went viral on social media.

"The accountant Masudul Islam has been suspended due to allegations of accepting bribes," CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Mohammad Touhidul Islam told The Business Standard today (27 August).

"Besides, a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter and submit a report within seven working days. The committee will be headed by Special Magistrate Monisha Mahjan," he added.

Later, another contractor came and also handed him money.

Following the circulation of the video, the CCC took immediate action, suspending Masudul Islam from his position.

According to CCC officials, it is common practice for contractors to pay bribes to obtain bill checks. The amount of the bribe often depends on the value of the bill.
