The Appellate Division is to give its verdict on the Islam’s life imprisonment case on October 27. Islam is from Jhinaidah.

The 7-member bench led by Chief Justice Sayeed Mahmud Hossain decided on the date after hearing a review plea filed by Islam on Thursday.

On February 13, 2000, Islam and Mala from Lipu village in Jhenaidah got married after having a love-affair.

Mala gave birth to a son named Milon on January 21, 2001

When the family and local people pressurised Islam to get their marriage registered and give recognition to their son, he refused and ran away.

In 2001, Mala’s father filed a rape case against Islam, and he was arrested later.

A DNA test confirmed that Milon is Islam’s son.

The High Court (HC) had sentenced Islam to life imprisonment In 2005. Islam had filed an appeal for bail, but the HC refused it.

Islam then, filed an appeal plea at the Appellate Division.

Barrister Ruhul Kuddus, who represented Islam in the appeal review, brought up the issue of giving recognition to Mala and Milon.

The HC granted him bail on condition that he recognise his wife and son.

Based on a HC order, Islam and Mala registered their marriage in the jail.

On August 1, the Appellate Division ordered Islam’s release on bail following their marriage and his recognition of his son Milon.
