Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram is preparing to operate domestic flights from Monday in compliance with official health directives.

Three airlines including the state owned Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate 11 Dhaka-bound flights on the day.

Chattogram airport's Managing Director Wing Commander Sarwer-e-Zaman told The Business Standard that on Monday, Bangladesh Biman Airlines will operate two flights on the Chattogram-Dhaka route while US Bangla and NovoAir will operate six and three respectively.

In order to maintain social distancing amid the ongoing Covid-19 situation, the airlines will carry 70 percent of each aircraft passenger capacity, he added.

Assuring the highest preparedness for safety against coronavirus infection, Sarwer said passengers will arrive in the parking area and wash their hands there. They will be provided masks and gloves by the airline. Their temperature will be measured as they enter the terminal building. They will also have to disinfect the soles of their shoes on a foot-mat.

After completing check-in procedures, the passengers will have their temperatures re-measured and will disinfect the soles of their shoes again on a foot-mat before entering the aircraft, he added.

Arifuzzaman Khan, Chattogram Airport Manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, told The Business Standard that Bangladesh Biman will operate two domestic flights from the port city to Dhaka on Monday. One at 10 am and another flight at 9:10 pm.

"We will operate the flight in compliance with health instructions. We are preparing accordingly," said Arifuzzaman.
