Navana Group, one of the leading industrial conglomerates in the country, has come forward to support people working on the frontlines of containing the novel coronavirus outbreak in the country.

It has distributed 50 portable ventilators imported from China, free of cost, among various medical centres – including hospitals dedicated to treating Covid-19 patients.

In addition, it has donated around 4,000 original 3M N-95 masks, gloves, face shields, and personal protective equipment (PPE) units to various hospitals, said Afzal Nazim director (research and development) of Navana Group.

"Another 60 ventilators and thousands of oxymetres are being imported for donation purposes," said Arfadur Rahman Bunty, general manager of Navana Group.

Earlier, a 50-bed field hospital was set up in Chattagram, to treat Covid-19 patients, in one of the company's factories vacated for this purpose. The hospital is providing ordinary people health services completely free of cost.

Among the hospitals receiving the donations are: Kurmitola General Hospital, Faridpur Medical College and Hospital, Barguna Sadar Hospital, Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital, Chittagong Police Hospital, Kurigram Sadar Hospital, and Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital.

Apart from this, safety gear was also provided to local administration officials who have been fighting the pandemic at the field level.

Arfadur Rahman Bunty, general manager (public relations) of the company said, "Navana helped the interim Mujibnagar government during the Liberation War. Before independence, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hired Navana to build the Bangladesh Bank building.  Therefore, Navana believes that in any crisis of the country, the country and the people must work to their maximum potential. The government is providing so many incentives. Everyone should think of the country as well."
Afzal Nazim said, "We are waiting for the arrival of 70 more ventilators and 2,000 standard PPE units from abroad. Equipment will be delivered to other novel coronavirus hospitals, including the dedicated Kuwait-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital, for the treatment of the Covid-19 patients – in a short time."
