Schoolgirl raped in Jamalpur

A schoolgirl in seventh-grade has been raped in Jamalpur. Police rescued the girl on Thursday from a remote char area in Islampur, Jamalpur, six days after she went missing from her home in Dhunat, Bogura.

Police have arrested a man named Afil Uddin, as he was found with the girl during the rescue mission. The court sent him to Bogura District Jail on Friday.

Gaziur Rahman, additional police super of Bogura, said that the victim came in contact with Afil Uddin over cellphone six months ago in consequence of a wrong number.

“She was abducted on August 16 as she was on her way to Sonamukhi village to visit her aunt. The girl’s father eventually filed a general diary (GD) on August 18 at the Dhunat Police Station,” said police sources.

Gaziur Rahman, subsequently, led drives with a team of police in different districts of north-west Bangladesh including Bogura, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Jamalpur, which ultimately led them to the girl, who was found with Afil Uddin in Chardighai Mondolpara Char of Islampur, Jamalpur.
