The body of a 5-year-old child named Abdullah has been retrieved from a drain in the Halishahar area of Chattogram.

Abdullah's death marks the third tragic incident involving the recovery of bodies from the city's drains and rivers within a week.

Meanwhile, Madrasa student Alif has been missing for seven agonizing days.

Nurul Alam Ashek, the in-charge of the Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost, said Abdullah had gone missing since Friday afternoon. His body was recovered from a drain in the Chhotopol Panchtala area on Saturday evening.

Abdullah, the son of Kamal, was a student at a local madrasa.

Earlier, on 27 August, a child named Yashin Arafat disappeared after drowning in a drain in the Rangipara KM Hashem Tower area of North Agrabad city. He was found dead in the same drain the following morning.

Just two days later, on 29 August, a 10-year-old named Alif Hossain went missing in the Syed Shah Road area of the city.

A search effort led by the fire service extended over two days but concluded without any sign of the boy.

On the night of 31 August, the police located the body of a 13-year-old schoolboy named Ahan Sayan in the Abhayamitra Ghat area of the Karnaphuli River.

Chattogram city has experienced similar water-related incidents in the past.

On 30 June 2021, two individuals lost their lives when a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw plunged into the Chashma canal in Gate No 2 area.

Then, on 25 August of the same year, a businessman named Saleh Ahmed went missing after drowning in the canal at the Muradpur intersection.

Additionally, on 27 September of the same year, a 19-year-old named Seherin Mahbub met a similar fate, drowning in Sadia Nala in the Agrabad area of the city.
