4 killed, including woman and child, as bus falls into ditch in Brahmanbaria
The child’s identity has not yet been confirmed, while two of the victims have been identified
At least four people were killed after a passenger bus lost control and fell into a roadside ditch in Sarail Upazila of Brahmanbaria today (8 June).
The accident occurred at around 12pm on the Dhaka–Sylhet Highway in the Baishamora area of the upazila. Among the deceased were two men, a woman and a child.
Officer-in-Charge of Sarail Khaitta Highway Police Station, Abu Taher, said a "Dighanta Paribahan" passenger bus was travelling from Madhabpur bus stand in Habiganj to Medda bus stand in Brahmanbaria town with passengers on board.
On the way, the bus lost control after being hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction and fell into a ditch, he said.
The child's identity has not yet been confirmed, while two of the victims have been identified. They are Ars Ali Munshi, 70, of Shahbazpur in Sarail upazila and Mousumi Das, 30, of Madhabpur upazila in Habiganj.
The police officer confirmed the deaths, saying four passengers died on the spot in the accident, while at least 10 others were injured.
Police and fire service personnel later rescued the injured and recovered the bodies, he added.
