Woman, son among 3 killed in Brahmanbaria road accident
The pickup van driver and his assistant fled immediately after the collision and could not be detained, police say.
Three people, including a woman and her young son, were killed after a pickup van collided with a CNG-powered autorickshaw on the Cumilla-Sylhet highway in the Biyallishhar area of Brahmanbaria Sadar upazila this morning (5 June).
The victims were autorickshaw driver Mahbub, 45, passenger Josna Begum, 40, and her son Ashraful, 5.
Josna's husband, Kawsar, 50, and their daughter Adiba, 4, were injured in the crash and are receiving treatment at Brahmanbaria General Hospital.
According to police, the family was travelling from Brahmanbaria's Kasba upazila to the Sarail Bishwaroad area when a fish-laden pickup van struck the autorickshaw from behind.
The impact left those in the autorickshaw seriously injured.
They were taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital, where doctors declared three of them dead.
Mohammad Abu Taher, officer-in-charge of Khatihata Highway Police Station, said officers were sent to the scene after receiving reports of the crash.
He said the pickup van driver and his assistant fled immediately after the collision and could not be detained, adding that police are investigating the incident.
