3,000 children to get relief in Chattogram

Not only adults, but children are also suffering a lot from food shortage as a result of the crisis triggered by the economic impact of the novel coronavirus.

Many poor families are unable to feed their children regularly. Also, the street children are barely surviving in this situation. So, the government has taken initiative to provide relief to these children. Initially, relief will be given to 3,000 children in Chattogram.

The District Relief and Rehabilitation Office has already allocated Tk3 lakh for the relief. These reliefs will be distributed according to the field level list. The relief includes milk, dairy products, semolina etc. The orphans, poor and children from low-income families will get these relief.

According to a report by the Non-Governmental Organisation, Aparajeyo Bangladesh, the number of street children in Chattogram is around 56,000. There are more street children in the port city. Most of them live in railway stations, parks and open places.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Sajib Kumar Chakraborty said, "The relief work will begin soon. We have allocated relief for 20,000 families and 3,000 children. Under the directions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we have already started making the list. The relief will be distributed among the children according to the list."

According to the Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) data, 3 lakh families in Chattogram city are eligible for relief. Already, 72,000 families have been provided relief.
