Relief distribution begins in Bogura

The government has started distributing relief among poor families in Bogura as part of its initiative to help them during the countrywide shutdown.

According to the local relief and rehabilitation department, 28,100 families in 12 upazilas have received 10kg rice each among other necessary commodities.

Still a large number of people are yet to receive any food aid.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday morning distributed food relief among families having disabled and unemployed members, but demand outweighed supply.

Company Commander of RAB-12 Assistant Superintendent of Police Rawshan Ali said 100 families were given food relief initially and more aid would be provided later.

Babul Mia, an agricultural worker of Dhunat upazila, has been unemployed for two weeks. After 15 days, he received food relief for the first time on Wednesday for his family of four members.

Likewise, 80-year-old Asir Uddin of Latifpur colony received government aid after two weeks. He is the head of a family of eight.

Adamdighi Upazila Parishad Chairman Sirajul Islam Khan Raju said he had personally started providing food relief on Wednesday morning.

"We have provided 7,000 families with 10kg rice, 1kg lentil, half litre of soybean oil and 2kg potatoes each among other items," he added.

Deputy Commissioner Faiz Ahmed officially inaugurated Raju's relief distribution programme.
