A Dhaka court on Monday granted a six-day remand to question former vice-president of Awami League's Gendaria unit Enamul and the unit's joint general secretary Rupon in a case filed under the Special Powers Act.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court granted the remand as Wari police produced the duo before the court and sought a 10-day remand for each.

Fazlur Rashid, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's prosecution division, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

On February 25, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized casino equipment, Tk26.55 crore in cash, 9,000 US dollars, 1 kilogram of gold jewellery, and fixed deposit receipts worth Tk5.15 crore from the residence of two brothers in a drive against illegal casinos.

Later, RAB filed two cases against them and some other unknown people with Wari police station under the Special Powers Act and Money Laundering Prevention Act.

Last year on September 24, the elite force also seized about Tk5 crore in cash, 8 kg of gold, and six firearms during raids at their Wari residences.

Later, RAB filed seven cases against the duo. However, they took to the hills after that.

On January 13 this year, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested Enamul, Rupon, and their associate Sheikh Sunny Mostafa from Dhaka's Keraniganj for their alleged involvement in the casino business.

Later, the CID discovered that four money laundering cases had already been filed against the brothers.
