Joy receives signed Tk100 from his coach

Joy scored a match-winning hundred in the semi-final of the U-19 World Cup to take Bangladesh U-19 to the final where they were crowned champions. The team received grand welcomes after they returned home and that did not allow Joy to receive his gift from Montu.

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP) coach Montu Dutta follows a small but beautiful ritual. On every occasion when one of his students score a hundred or picks up five wickets, he gifts them with a Tk100 note. And Under-19 World Cup Mahmudul Hasan Joy is the latest on the line to receive this gift.

Joy scored a match-winning hundred in the semi-final of the U-19 World Cup to take Bangladesh U-19 to the final where they were crowned champions. The team received grand welcomes after they returned home and that did not allow Joy to receive his gift from Montu.

But as he was picked to play for the BCB XI against Zimbabwe in a practice match, Joy got the opportunity to do. And after the day's play ended, he did so.

After receiving his reward, Joy said, "I am feeling very happy. I always try to win this reward from sir (Montu Dutta). Almighty willing, I will be rewarded like this in the future too."

Montu was also delighted with his disciple's achievement. He said, "I feel very happy to gift them. I always want him to receive this gift. Once he missed because he was out on 99. Till date, he has taken it six times in international matches and nine overall."

Joy though always takes a note which is signed by Montu himself. Montu reminisced that once Joy asked him (Montu) to give his signature on the note.

"Joy once returned the note to me and said that there was no signature. I signed it and gave it back to him," Montu said.

Montu gifts a lot of students Tk100 for their achievements. He said, "I spend around Tk1500-1800 per month to gift them. Whenever someone picks up five wickets or scores a hundred, I gift them with Tk100. I am doing this since 2000. It is like a present for me."

Bangladesh national team batsman Liton Das is the one to receive the most number of gifts from Montu till date.

"Liton has received it the most. He scored five hundreds in the U-14 level. I had to gift him Tk500. Even now, when he scores a hundred now in the domestic arena, he comes here to receive his gift. I still owe him the gifts for two tons."
