Minhajul happy with high-scoring BBPL matches

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin is happy with high-scoring matches in the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

There are only 11 instances in this BPL when a team total reached 180 runs and beyond. Nine of these big scores were recorded in Chattogram. There are only five times when the team totals reached 200 or more, and all of them were in Chattogram.

"People always expect high-scoring matches in T20. In that sense, the Chattogram-phase of BPL is successful. The spectators are enjoying the games. At the same time, the high-scoring games are helping the batsmen get more confidence," Minhajul told the media on Sunday in Chattogram.

"There are different challenges for cricketers in different venues. Batsmen have struggled in Dhaka, but they're doing well in Chattogram. They might be facing challenging wickets in Sylhet," he added.

Young players like Mehedi Hasan Rana, Mohammad Naim, Nasum Ahmed have been doing well in BPL. Minhajul said they need to continue with good runs to get a call to the national team.

"Some young guys are impressive. But they need to keep up their performances. There is a big difference between doing well in domestic cricket and international cricket. We previously saw some players who did well in domestic cricket but failed in the international arena. So, we have to make sure that we get some players who are capable of doing well regularly," he added.

According to the former national captain, every young player should set a goal for 15 years and keep doing well consistently to draw the attention of the selectors.

"If a player wants to serve the national team for a longer period, he should set his goal for 15 years. If he does well five years in domestic cricket, there is a good chance for him to be called in the national team. If a player doesn't set a goal for a long time, his performance doesn't meet a required standard," he said.
