BCB forms new committee to review BPL corruption report
The members have been given until 7 September to deliver their recommendations.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had earlier formed an independent inquiry committee to investigate corruption in the last edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). That body has now submitted a preliminary report to the board. Based on its recommendations, the BCB has set up another four-member committee to decide the board's next course of action.
Speaking to the media in Sylhet today after a board directors' meeting, BCB director Nazmul Abedin Fahim said the new committee will mainly examine the legal aspects before advising on future steps. The members have been given until 7 September to deliver their recommendations.
Fahim explained, "This is not a tribunal (to conduct trials). All the matters are tied up with legal aspects. To cover that, the new committee will look into the legal side and will advise the board as soon as possible on what needs to be done. Because the report has given recommendations and highlighted issues the board wants to work on. There might be many factors there that have created obstacles to the progress of our cricket."
Whether a tribunal will be formed to deal with the BPL corruption cases will be decided after the four-member committee makes its recommendations.
The earlier independent committee was led by former Appellate Division judge Mirza Hossain Haider, with lawyer Dr Khaled H Chowdhury and former cricketer Shakil Kasem as members. Their preliminary report to the BCB also contained advice for the next BPL season.
After the meeting, Fahim also informed that the BCB's board of directors' election will be held in the first week of October. The exact date will be announced by the election commission, a three-member body for which BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul has been tasked with proposing names. Bulbul has already expressed his interest in running again for the presidency.
When asked whether it would be a conflict of interest for Bulbul himself to form the election commission while intending to contest, Fahim replied, "There are guidelines on how it will be done and what kind of background the members should have. (Whether it is a conflict of interest) I don't know. The president will decide in consultation with other members."
