A woman has allegedly killed her step-daughter by hitting her head at Mirpur in the capital.

The deceased was identified as Sohana, 10, a fifth-grade student.

Police have arrested her stepmother Parveen, 30, and father Sohel over the incident that took place at around 10:30 am on Friday at Adarshanagar-2 Plot No. 4 in Mirpur 11.

Sohana's uncle Nur Hossain said that Sohel got divorced from Kulsum, Sohana's biological mother, 4 years ago.

"After the separation, my sister had kept the girl with her. Sohel later took Sohana to live with him," Nur added.

He alleged that the victim was repeatedly tortured by her stepmother for household chores.

"Parveen took Sohana to Monipur this morning and killed her by hitting her on the head. She was taken to a local private hospital after the murder," he alleged and said preparations are underway to file a case.

Confirming the incident, Pallabi Police Station SI Ataur Mahmud said, "We have brought the body to the police station after being informed. Her father and stepmother have been arrested in connection with the murder."
